Good Old Code
A downloadable project for Windows
I wanted to recode the feeling of old megademo done in the 90's.
At this time, no GPU, no shader: only a mono-threaded CPU had to do the job.
No high-level API to handle: no, only assembly and tricky algorithms.
I'm kind of nostalgic for this era.
Here everything is coded in c++, not a single line of assembly...
but, with modern PC, I think all this demo could be done in Python or worse(but I still have some dignity).
I only use SDL3: a really great lib, I discovered 15 years too late.
This demo is born after I've seen a live show with Master Boot Record, a "computer metal band" as they call themselves... On their background there was images of PC demos I remembered: Unreal and Second Reality by Future Crew, Dope by Complex and some other awesome pieces of code.
The same week Alex Pilot starts an Ulule for his film "Demo" about the amiga demoscene.
All this woke up too many memories in me… I had to do something too!
